I’m in Clarksville….now what?!
So I know that a lot of you coming to Austin Peay aren’t really sure if there’s anything to do in Clarksville, but since I have lived here all of my days allow me to let you in on the goings on of the town:
There is always live music downtown with local artists who are actually really good (Ben Wilson and John Winters for example…John has a myspace so go check out his music its http://www.myspace.com/johncwinters ). Downtown is in walking distance from Austin Peay so even if you don’t have a car on campus don’t feel like you can’t go do things.
We have the Riverwalk which is always fun to go. We host Riverfest there in the Fall, which is full of music and different booths to visit. We also have Rivers and Spires downtown/at the Riverwalk in the Spring which offers even more activities….the Gov’s Ambassador’s had a booth at Rivers and Spires this past year : )
About 10 minutes from campus we have our mall, which has plenty of stores to choose from. There are a ton of restaraunts by the mall and a Putt Putt golf course as well.
Movies. If you love to go see movies or check out some of the films RJ and Chiquita have been blogging about we have a few theater options for you. There is a theater inside the mall, a larger theater close by the mall called the Great Escape, and then every college kids favorite….a 99 CENT theater close to campus. Another option to see movies is right on campus: in our Clement Auditorium we offer FREE movie and pizza on Friday nights (can’t beat free food and entertainment for a college kid).
Oh and don’t let me forget the infamous WAL MART question. LOL. Yes, we have you covered in the Wal Mart department. Clarksville has 3 Super Wal-Marts and one over the Kentucky border, so it’s as if we have 4.
Also, there are always functions going on at Austin Peay in the University Center or various locations on or around campus. You just have to check the emailed campus Publications to see what’s happening or check with some of the campus organizations to see what they’re planning.
So in other words, we’ll keep you occupied here in Clarksville when you’re not cramming for an exam or going home for a weekend to visit your hometown.
